When building precision inspection and processing equipment, many engineers face a tough challenge. Granite reference surface plates are extremely hard, making on-site drilling and tapping highly difficult. Granite is brittle, so on-site machining often causes edge chipping and cracks. Once mishandled, the entire precision-lapped reference surface may be scrapped directly. In addition, manually tapped threads on site suffer poor positional accuracy and unstable thread strength. During equipment module assembly, misaligned holes and uneven locking force often occur, slowing down machine assembly and even compromising the long-term geometric accuracy of the equipment. To address this industry pain point, UNPARALLELED® supplies granite surface plates with pre-embedded thread inserts. The design simplifies equipment assembly from the very beginning and delivers a more reliable solution for mounting and fixing precision modules.
The pre-embedded thread insert process installs stainless steel threaded inserts precisely into the stone before the granite plate is lapped. Unlike threads tapped directly into granite afterwards, these inserts bond tightly with the granite substrate and bear load evenly, avoiding stripped threads or cracking in the stone. Coordinates, depths and perpendicularity of all holes are completed in one run on high-precision CNC machines in our factory. Hole positional tolerances are fully controlled according to customers' drawings. After receiving the plate, customers do not need secondary drilling or tapping which may damage the material. Linear modules, optical platforms, inspection jigs, motor brackets and other components can be mounted directly out of the box.
Many precision equipment integration projects have tight assembly schedules and limited on-site workshop conditions. If using ordinary granite plates, engineers must carry diamond cutting tools for on-site hole machining. This process generates heavy dust, takes much time and carries risks of damaging precision reference surfaces. UNPARALLELED® granite plates with pre-embedded inserts shift most machining work to our factory. Our constant-temperature and dust-free workshop ensures superior hole accuracy. On the customer's side, workers only need simple alignment and screw locking. This greatly shortens machine assembly and commissioning time, reduces uncertainties caused by on-site machining. It is ideal for automated inspection equipment, optical instruments, small engraving modules and semiconductor inspection platform integration projects.
Beyond easier assembly, the pre-embedded thread structure improves long-term operational stability of the whole machine. Threads cut directly into granite on later processing tend to suffer tooth damage under repeated disassembly and continuous dynamic load. In contrast, pre-installed stainless steel threaded inserts feature durable metal threads with anti-fatigue performance. They support repeated assembly and disassembly and maintain stable tightening force. Under high-speed reciprocating motion and continuous vibration, inserts stay firmly locked inside the granite substrate and resist shifting. This keeps the mounting reference of guide rails, sliding tables and jigs stable for years and protects the precision granite working surface from damage caused by repeated module disassembly.
The design also offers great flexibility. UNPARALLELED® can arrange threaded inserts at designated positions according to customers' overall machine layouts. Inserts can be arranged densely or scattered. Combined structures such as steps, positioning grooves and T-slots can also be machined to match different module layouts. Whether fixing small sensors at single points or clamping heavy air-bearing sliding tables with multiple fasteners, we can properly plan thread specifications and distribution to balance load and prevent local chipping of granite caused by concentrated single-point heavy pressure.
From the perspective of overall machine design, granite plates with pre-embedded thread inserts integrate reference surface accuracy and mounting hole accuracy. The plate retains granite's material advantages including high damping, low thermal expansion and dimensional stability. Meanwhile, it solves the common drawbacks of granite: difficult machining and troublesome on-site assembly. For equipment manufacturers, this product preserves the high precision and stability brought by granite reference platforms while simplifying assembly procedures, lowering risks of on-site construction and reducing hidden troubles during machine commissioning. It is a preferred reference structure balancing performance and assembly efficiency for precision equipment integration projects.
