The Art Of Precision: UNPARALLELED®'s Manufacturing Process For Granite Surface Plates

Granite surface plates are indispensable tools in modern manufacturing, trusted for their exceptional stability in metrology and quality control. At UNPARALLELED Group, we don't just produce these tools-we engineer them with a proprietary process that combines time-honored craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. Our process, certified under ISO 9001, ensures every granite surface plate delivers the highest level of accuracy and long-term reliability.

Step 1: The Foundation - Sawing & Rough Machining

The journey begins with our signature UNPARALLELED® Black Granite. This material, with a density of approximately 3100 kg/m³, is the densest and most stable black granite available. We use state-of-the-art diamond wire saws and large-diameter circular saws to precisely cut raw granite blocks into slabs of the required thickness. This initial stage is crucial for laying the groundwork for the final product, ensuring the material's structural integrity is maintained from the very beginning. Unlike older, inefficient sawing methods, our approach is fast and precise, a key factor in our ability to produce 20,000 sets of 5000mm granite beds monthly-the highest output in the industry.

Step 2: Polishing & Grinding - Achieving Unmatched Flatness

This is the most critical and complex phase of the process. Our goal is to transform the rough slab into a mirror-flat surface plate that meets nanometer-level tolerances. This is achieved through a multi-stage grinding and polishing sequence:

Rough Grinding: We use high-performance grinding machines and coarse abrasives like silicon carbide to flatten the surface.

Intermediate & Fine Grinding: The plate undergoes successive stages with progressively finer diamond and cubic boron nitride abrasives.

Final Lapping & Polishing: This stage is where human expertise and precision machinery converge. Our master lapping craftsmen, known to our clients as "walking electronic levels," use their three decades of experience to manually lap the surface. Their unique touch can achieve nanometer-level flatness, a level of precision that automation alone cannot match.

Our factory is equipped with four large Taiwan NanTe grinding machines, each costing over $500,000 USD, capable of grinding surfaces up to 6000mm in length. This unparalleled capability ensures that even our largest granite surface plates and components are finished to the highest standards.

Step 3: Precision Cutting & Sizing

Once the surface has been polished to perfection, our CNC cutting machines take over. Using multi-blade or bridge-style saws, we precisely cut the polished slabs to the exact dimensions required by the client's specifications. This is where our advanced CNC equipment, capable of handling single pieces up to 20m long and 100 tons, shines.

Step 4: Auxiliary Machining - Custom Features

Our work doesn't stop at the surface. Many applications require custom features, such as threaded inserts for mounting components, T-slots, or holes for air bearings. We use specialized CNC machining centers and thin-wall drills to perform these auxiliary processes with extreme precision, ensuring that every detail is perfect. This flexibility allows us to create bespoke solutions for a wide range of industries, from semiconductor manufacturing to metrology.

Step 5: Inspection & Repair - Our Commitment to Quality

Before a product can be approved, it must pass our rigorous inspection process. Using state-of-the-art metrology equipment, including Renishaw laser interferometers, Mahr micrometers, and Wyler electronic levels, we meticulously verify every dimensional and geometric parameter. We check for any imperfections, cracks, or surface defects. Any minor flaws are expertly repaired using adhesives that match the original material's color and properties, minimizing waste and upholding our promise of "No cheating, no concealment, no misleading."

At UNPARALLELED Group, we believe that the pursuit of precision is a continuous journey. From the quarry to your factory floor, every step of our process is designed to deliver a product that is not just a tool, but a symbol of reliability and perfection.
