Granite Air Bearing also called granite air floating, granite air slider... An air bearing is a non-contacting system where a gas film (usually air) acts as the lubricant that separates the two surfaces in relative motion – typically this being a rotating shaft, and a stationary radial journal or axial thrust bearing. Granite Air bearing is widely used in many ultra-high precision industries such as metrology equipment, cnc machines, laser machines, CMM Machines... Granite Air bearings offer better straightness, angular deviation, and repeatability than ball bearing slides.  In addition, because air bearings are inherently frictionless, they do not exhibit breakaway or running friction, even under their maximum loading.  The totally noncontact, clean nature of air bearings means that they are virtually maintenance free and their accuracy won't degrade over time due to wear.

Granite Air Bearing has very little friction. Granite air bearing has advantages of high precision, stability, abrasion-proof and corrosion-proof of the granite surface plate.  It was not need to be check and replace lubrication because parts are needed less to support drive axis and oil is note needed.

And a film can be produced between air bearing and drive axis when the granite air bearing runs, and it can air bearing and drive axis from being worn, and dust and particles cannot enter between air bearing and drive axis by air of the bearing. Traditional equipment generally chooses sliding friction (ball friction), because this way the friction is relatively small, but the friction of graniteair float bearing is smaller and the accuracy is higher.
