UNPARALLELED LTD is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of precision granite breadboard plate in China. With abundant experience, we warmly welcome you to buy advanced precision granite breadboard plate made in China here from our factory. We also accept custom orders.
What You're Looking At
If you've ever set up an optical bench and watched a beam alignment shift by a few microns overnight for no obvious reason, you already understand why the base plate matters as much as the components sitting on it. This is UNPARALLELED's black granite breadboard plate - a solid, single-piece precision granite platform finished with a regularly spaced grid of threaded mounting holes across the entire top surface.
The plate is machined from our high-density black granite (≈3,100 kg/m³), giving it a deep, uniform matte-black finish with the faint mineral fleck typical of genuine igneous granite - not the flatter, more uniform surface you'd see on a dyed or composite imitation. The mounting hole array runs in tight, evenly spaced rows across the full working surface, letting you position and re-position optical mounts, brackets, or fixtures almost anywhere on the plate rather than being locked into a handful of fixed points. At each end of the plate, you'll notice a larger precision bushing set into the surface - typically used as a primary reference or heavy-load mounting point for larger fixtures.
The block itself has real mass - a substantial slab thickness rather than a thin sheet - which is a deliberate design choice, not just a byproduct of the material. Mass and rigidity are what give a breadboard its damping characteristics; a thin, lightweight plate simply can't absorb vibration the way a dense, thick granite block does.
Most commercial optical breadboards on the market are aluminum honeycomb or steel-faced composite panels - lightweight, relatively inexpensive, and adequate for a lot of general lab work. Where they fall short is in exactly the situations that justify buying a precision plate in the first place: long-duration measurements, sub-micron alignment work, and environments with any ambient vibration or temperature fluctuation.
Granite outperforms these lighter alternatives on three fronts that actually matter at the bench:
- Vibration damping - granite's crystalline internal structure absorbs and dissipates vibration energy far more effectively than a honeycomb core, which is designed to be light rather than dense.
- Thermal stability - a low, consistent coefficient of thermal expansion means the hole spacing and surface flatness stay accurate even as room temperature drifts through the day, whereas aluminum plates expand and contract enough to introduce measurable positioning error over a large surface.
- Long-term flatness retention - granite carries essentially no internal residual stress from manufacturing, so it doesn't slowly warp or bow the way welded or bonded metal composite plates can over years of use.
None of this means aluminum breadboards are a bad product - for portable setups or lighter-duty applications, they're often the right choice. But for a fixed installation supporting laser alignment, interferometry, or any measurement where you're chasing repeatability at the micron level, the physical properties of granite are difficult to substitute.

Standard hole pitch, bushing placement, and thread specification are configured per application - see below.
- Optical and laser bench setups - femtosecond and picosecond laser systems, beam alignment stations, photonics R&D benches
- Precision assembly fixtures - where components need to be positioned and re-positioned across a stable reference surface during assembly or testing
- Vibration-sensitive inspection stations - AOI systems, interferometry setups, and other equipment where a lightweight table would introduce noise into the measurement
- Semiconductor and metrology lab benches - as a stable base beneath instrumentation that can't tolerate thermal or vibrational drift
In practice, customers in laser and photonics work tend to value the mounting flexibility most - being able to reposition a mount without drilling new holes or bolting onto a separate bracket plate. Metrology and semiconductor customers tend to care more about the flatness retention and thermal behavior over years of continuous use.
FAQ
Is this the same as a standard aluminum optical breadboard, just heavier? Not really - the hole array and general form factor look similar, but the underlying material behaves very differently under load, vibration, and temperature change. If your current setup already meets your tolerance requirements, an aluminum breadboard may be entirely sufficient. This plate is built for the cases where it isn't.
Can the hole pattern and bushing placement be customized? Yes. Hole pitch, thread size, pattern coverage, and reference bushing location are all configured to your fixture or optical layout - this product page shows our standard configuration, but most orders are built to a customer drawing or spec.
How large can these plates be manufactured? Our production lines can process single granite components up to 20m in length, 4000mm in width, and 1000mm in thickness, with individual pieces up to 100 tons. Multi-piece assemblies for very large optical tables or equipment platforms are also available.
What flatness tolerance can I expect? Flatness is graded to your specified standard (DIN 876, ASME B89.3.7, JIS, or GB/T) and scales with plate size - smaller plates achieve tighter absolute tolerances than very large ones. We provide a calibration certificate traceable to a national metrology institute with every order.
Does the black finish affect performance, or is it purely cosmetic? The finish is functional as well as aesthetic - a properly ground and sealed black granite surface has consistent porosity and hardness across the plate, which matters for mounting stability and long-term flatness retention. It isn't just a coating.
What's the lead time for a custom-configured plate? Lead time depends on size, hole pattern complexity, and current production schedule. Reach out with your rough specifications and we'll give you a realistic timeline rather than a generic estimate.
