Custom Precision Granite machine bed is made for hign end precision CNC machines and metrology equipment.Granite is a modern material for high-precision parts. High-precision components can be ideally manufactured in granite. The reasons for this are primarily the extremely good properties of this material. Natural hard stone is the ideal basis for the manufacture of precision products due to its fine crystalline structure, low coefficient of expansion, high abrasion resistance, optimum vibration damping and freedom from unwanted internal stresses. Very fine surface quality can be achieved when machining hard stone. This makes granite parts particularly suitable for air-bearing guides. The air consumption is reduced to a minimum due to the high surface quality. In any case, the use of granite is always worthwhile when the quantities of parts, such as machine beds or high-precision base plates for guides, are relatively small. If the quantities are over 50 per year, the use of polymer concrete can be considered. We can also make you an offer for polymer concrete. However, please note the high initial costs due to the production of the mould.

 4 High inherent stability

(1). Granite is a volcanic deep rock comprising the three main components quartz, feldspar and mica, formed by crystallisation of rock melts in the earth's crust.

(2). "Aged" over several thousand years, granite is homogeneous and free of internal stresses. Jinan Black Granite, for example, is about 1.4 million years old.

(3). Granite has a great hardness: Mohs' hardness up to 10.

 5 High temperature resistance

(1). Compared to metallic materials, granite has a lower coefficient of expansion (approx. 5 µm/m*K) and thus a lower absolute expansion compared to these materials (e.g. steel α = 12 µm/m*K).

(2). The lower thermal conductivity of granite (3 W/m*K) compared to steel (42-50 W/m*K) ensures a slower reaction to temperature fluctuations.

 6 Keep high precision for long time

The use of granite as a measuring plate made of natural hard stone enables very good machining with diamond tools so that machine components are manufactured with high basic accuracies.

By manual lapping, the accuracy of the guides is optimized according to the requirements to the micron.

During lapping, load-related deformations of the components can be taken into account.

This results in highly-compressed surfaces which allow the use of air bearing guides. Air bearing guides are highly accurate due to the high surface quality and contactless movement of the axes...
