How To Manufacture Ultra-Precision Granite Inspection Platforms With Nanometer-Level Flatness?

In cutting-edge fields such as nano-detection, vision measurement, semiconductor defect inspection and optical interferometry, the reference plane of inspection platforms directly determines data credibility for the entire measurement system. As precision manufacturing advances toward submicron and nanometer scales, stone platforms processed by conventional techniques can no longer satisfy the demands of high-end laboratory tests and mass-production inspection. Many equipment manufacturers have discovered that even when equipped with premium measurement sensors, systematic measurement errors will continuously occur if the reference plane of the carrying platform deviates. Accordingly, building granite inspection platforms with nanometer-level flatness has become a key research subject for numerous precision inspection equipment enterprises.

Ultra-high flatness accuracy cannot be achieved through a single machining process. It is accomplished by the coordination of raw material treatment, production environment control, progressive grinding and precision inspection. The tolerance window for nanoscale precision is extremely narrow; any negligence in the process will lead to unsatisfactory flatness indicators. Most stone processing factories on the market only possess micron-level processing capacity and lack full-process precision control capability. With years of experience specializing in custom ultra-precision granite components, UNPARALLELED Group focuses on supporting high-end inspection equipment. We have developed mature complete manufacturing solutions for nanometer-grade granite platforms, delivering long-term stable high-precision reference plane solutions to measurement equipment manufacturers globally.

Raw materials constitute the prerequisite for achieving superior flatness. Ordinary granite suffers from uneven grain distribution and tiny natural microfissures, which easily trigger local deformation during continuous machining and long-term service. We adopt self-developed UNPARALLELED® high-density black granite with densely and uniformly distributed rock grains. Raw stone will not enter processing directly after incoming inspection; instead, it undergoes segmented aging treatment. Extended static storage releases native internal rock stress to prevent gradual plate deformation after finishing machining, fundamentally avoiding flatness degradation over time. We strictly distinguish metrology-grade granite from engineering-grade granite and never use low-cost stone materials for manufacturing high-precision inspection platforms.

Grinding technology serves as the core procedure to realize nanoscale flatness and marks the dividing line between ordinary stone workshops and ultra-precision manufacturers. Conventional polishing can merely reach micron-level precision. To attain nanometer standards, a progressive multi-stage grinding procedure is required. The platform sequentially undergoes rough grinding, semi-finish grinding, fine grinding and final ultra-precision polishing. The grit size of abrasives decreases step by step to eliminate subtle tool marks generated from previous processes. All finishing operations are carried out in a Class 10,000 constant-temperature, constant-humidity dust-free workshop. The workshop is equipped with independent anti-vibration foundations and isolated anti-vibration trenches to maximally isolate vibration interference from external traffic and production equipment, ensuring stable grinding conditions.

The larger the granite platform, the harder it is to control flatness. For large integrated inspection platforms, we prioritize monolithic forming technology to avoid height differences at joints caused by assembling multiple slabs. In accordance with customer drawings, structural processing including embedded thread sleeves, wiring grooves, positioning reference grooves and vacuum suction holes is completed in advance. All drilling and grooving work is arranged during rough machining. Post-finishing machining would induce stress variation and damage the ultra-precision finished plane. The whole processing workflow complies with internationally recognized metrology standards DIN and ASME. Platforms of Grade 00 and Grade 000 ultra-high precision can be customized to meet client requirements.

Comprehensive phased inspection runs through the whole production workflow of platforms, rather than only random sampling after completion. After each grinding procedure, technicians recheck flatness using imported high-precision levels and laser interferometers. All testing instruments hold valid calibration certificates issued by metrology institutions with fully traceable measurement data. A final comprehensive verification is conducted after production. The workpiece is kept stationary under constant temperature for observation for a period of time. Delivery is only arranged after confirming no obvious deformation, guaranteeing that the supplied granite platform maintains nanometer-level flatness over long-term operation on customer sites.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        How To Control Clamping Stress Deformation During Granite Base Assembly?
