Custom granite machine base in productionnews-15-15

What information should you provide when requesting a quote for a custom granite machine base? The short answer: a complete drawing package plus your application details. The more precisely you describe the geometry, tolerances and working conditions, the faster our engineering team can confirm manufacturability, propose an inspection plan and return an accurate quotation - usually within a few working days and with very few back-and-forth questions.

This checklist is based on the way we actually review incoming RFQs for custom granite machine base projects serving CNC, metrology and semiconductor equipment builders. Use it before you send your enquiry.

Sample simplified RFQ drawing with annotationsnews-15-15

The simplified drawing above shows the items our engineers check first: datum surfaces, overall dimensions, threaded inserts, guide-rail interfaces and hole positions. A marked-up or even hand-annotated version of your drawing is welcome - it tells us where the critical features are.

1. Drawings and models

  • 2D drawings in PDF, DWG or STEP, including revision number and date
  • 3D models (STEP/IGES) if the base has complex pockets or interfaces
  • Please state clearly which revision is current, and send superseded drawings if the design has changed

2. Dimensions, weight and installation envelope

  • Overall length, width and height, and the allowed tolerance on each
  • Approximate weight, if already calculated
  • Available installation space, floor loading limits and handling restrictions (forklift slots, lifting inserts, crane access)

3. Datums, mounting surfaces and geometric tolerances

  • Which surfaces are datums (A/B/C) and which are functional mounting faces
  • Flatness, parallelism and perpendicularity requirements - for example 0.005 mm flatness on a measuring machine base
  • Surface finish (e.g. lapped, polished) and whether a final inspection report is required

4. Inserts, holes, slots and guide-rail interfaces

  • Threaded insert specification: size (e.g. M6/M8), depth, spacing and material (stainless steel or brass)
  • T-slots, locating grooves and linear guide rail interfaces with their position tolerances relative to the datums
  • Any pockets, cut-outs or cable channels

5. Loads, support and environment

  • Actual loads and their distribution (machine weight, moving axis loads, point loads)
  • Support method: three-point support, air isolation mounts, or a steel frame
  • Working environment: temperature range, vibration, cleanroom class, humidity

6. Inspection, packaging and delivery

  • Acceptance criteria and whether a third-party or in-house calibration certificate is needed
  • Packaging requirements: wooden crates, export sea freight, moisture protection
  • Target delivery date and destination port or address

How we review your drawing - not just "we can customize"

Any supplier can say "we customize to drawing". What actually saves you time is how the drawing is read. When your RFQ arrives, our engineering team walks through it in a fixed sequence: we first confirm the datums and tolerance stack, then check every insert and rail interface against granite machining capability, then review load and support points for stability, and finally map each requirement to a specific inspection method and instrument. If anything is ambiguous - a missing datum, an undefined insert depth, a tolerance tighter than the application needs - we come back with one consolidated question list instead of a long email chain. You receive a clear quote covering material, machining, inserts, inspection and packaging, so the specification you agreed to is the one we deliver.

You can see typical examples of our work on granite machinery components and CNC granite components, including bases for measuring machines and semiconductor equipment.

Ready to start? Send your drawings, application description and acceptance requirements to our team via the contact page, and our engineers will evaluate the manufacturing and inspection plan and get back to you with a quotation.
